Make Your Own Dividers

I wanted to do this project I created called a “Family Birthday Binder”.  I decided that it would be a good idea to make a binder where I could keep a folder on each family member and stock up on birthday cards.  It is much easier to plan things in advance.

The budget was tight, but I was so determined to get this project done.  I had already spent the planned amount for crafting for the week and I wasn’t sure how the next couple weeks would go, so I decided that I would try to do this project free.

I needed dividers and I needed folders, but I didn’t want to spend any money…so…I made my own out of things I already had!

Here’s what you will need:

  • 1 pencil
  • 1 three ring binder
  • 1 three ring hole punch (any hole punch will do but you will have to measure the distance if you use just a single hole punch. So you might want to grab a ruler too if you just have a single.)
  • 12 X 12 paper
  • scissors
  • old dividers to trace
  • stick glue
  • clear tape
  • a printer (or you can just write on them with a marker if you don’t have a printer)
  • paper for the printer (if you decide to print out labels or make your own)

First I picked the paper I wanted to use

Next I found my old dividers

Then I traced them on each paper.  I decided to trace on the back of the paper so I had to flip the divider to trace it the right way.

After tracing them all I cut them out of course.

Then added tape to the edge of each side making sure to erase the pencil marks on the back first.

Finally I made labels for the tabs and put them through the hole puncher and into my binder they went. (I ran out of Avery labels so I just made my own and cut them out and glued them on with stick glue.)
