On Easter Day 6 & 7: Easter day 6 was the day Christ was crucified and Easter day 7 was the day he visited the spirit world and organized it.
For these days my traditions are to read books about Easter. I have toddlers and their attention spans are not very long…well, mine isn’t really either. Ha! So I got them these books so I can read to them.
We opened our Easter baskets so it was good to put these in the basket too. And of course I got a quiet book for my kids for church, and a couple extra things. Hey, its Easter right? This may give you some ideas on how to keep it more about Christ than the Easter Bunny. I tell my kids that the Easter Bunny for Easter is just like Santa for Christmas. The true meaning of Christmas is Christ’s birth and the true meaning of Easter is Christ living again and making it so we can live with our Heavenly Father again. They wanted Scriptures, even just to thumb through the pages, so I got them each a Book of Mormon. I like that we opened baskets the day before Easter so we can really focus on Christ on the day of Easter!
If you would like to start this tradition there are a few that help teach about the true meaning of Easter! If you don’t want to buy, you can always go to your public library. Mine had a few that I really liked that taught about the true meaning of Easter. If you don’t have a library card go and get one. You won’t regret it.
Most of all, read to your kids. Whether it is out of the scriptures the account of what happened or a simple book of why we have Easter, they will soak it in. That’s something I truly love about my kids. They love to read.
