Be Positive and Drink Water!

Drink Water

It is summer and for some of us that means we need to remind ourselves to drink water more often than we normally do.  Here’s how I have reminded myself to.

Drink Water = Stay Alive This Summer!

With scorching temperatures in the 100’s having enough water in our bodies has to be a priority.

I wanted a way to help myself remember to drink water.  My water bottle broke a few months ago, or I lost it one of the two, so I wanted to get a new one so I could remember to keep it full and drink enough.

I was on a trip to the dollar store with my kids looking around for some games for them and I found these!  Drink Water

These are glass cups!  Score!   I love that they came with straws and lids!  I love the sayings on them and I love that they are brightly colored as well.  I got one of each so that I don’t have to worry when one gets dirty.  Instead of having to wash the same water bottle over and over I can just grab a new cup and go!

Another goal of mine lately has been to be more positive.  When I go to drink my water I can’t help smile when my cup says “Hugs!” or “Smile” or “I Can and I Will”.  All five cups make me smile in some way or another.  What better way to rejuvenate than by being happy drinking your water?

It’s so funny how my kids love the same things I do.  The first thing they wanted to do when we got home was to drink out of these cups. I think they like the bright colors too!

The most important thing this summer is to stay hydrated and cool.  Whatever gets you to remember to drink enough water, do that!  Drink water, stay inside or in a pool, and enjoy your summer!

How to Make Summer Snow!

Summer Snow

Its 113 degrees outside…literally.  “Can we go to the pool mom?” well that’s a no.  Hmm…what can we do? Summer Snow! “Do you want to build a snowman?”
Summer Snow

So it’s summer.  Here in Arizona that means we have record temperatures of 118 degrees some days.  I mean, you can NOT go outside.  You go outside and you will find yourself like the wicked witch from the west, melting, only from your own sweat created because of the intense radiation beaming down on your wonderfully unprotected skin.  Go ahead an put on SPF 60 in this weather but you still might get burned!

On top of the sun beaming its wicked smiling face at you the heat from the road comes up.  It’s like you are stuck between the sky and the earth, roasting like a hot dog on a stick with no place to go.

If you do brave going outside, like the missionaries for example, take ample water or you will get heat stroke in like 10 minutes!  When the missionaries show up to my door the first thing I do is give them water.  I don’t want someone’s son dying because he knocked on 10 doors and no one would let him fill up his water bottle. Come on people!  Where’s the love?

Anyway, back to the post.  I found a summer activity that you will love!  It is called…SNOW!!!!  Hooray for snow!

The best part is that this snow doesn’t melt.  You can use it over and over and over and over (you get the picture).  You just collect all the snow back into the bin and put it in the fridge or freezer and wa la!  You will have snow again in a couple of hours.  Want to know how I make it?

How to Make Inside Summer Snow

2 1/2 cups baking soda

3/4 cup water

I get a spoon out, oh and this is the REALLY hard part.  Are you ready?  I stir the baking soda and the water together.  Oh man, see wasn’t that the hardest thing you have ever done? Whew so glad that is over.

Put that snow in the fridge for a couple hours or in the freezer for a few minutes and wa la!  You have snow.  Then pull it out and make some mini snowmen with the wonderful chilly snow you just created.  Your kids will think it’s magic!  Really!

If you really want to get creative then take out your cookie cutters and let your kids put some snow in the cookie cutters to make various shapes.  I pulled out ALL mine!  Even the Halloween ones.  My kids LOVED it!

Warning: this makes a huge mess.  Make sure you are at a surface that is easy to wipe down.  It isn’t hard to clean up but it does get everywhere. For quick cleaning just scoop up the snow on the table that you want to keep, wipe the table down and sweep up anything that got on the floor.  Done!

You can make more snow if you want by doubling or tripling the recipe.  You may even find a bunch of other recipes for Summer Snow on Pinterest!  Just check it out!
